In depth

Verdict

One Five Eight can land this race off a featherweight although he faces particularly hardy opposition in the guises of Native Ivy and Noshinnanakin. Mick Easterby's charge only has 9st 10lb to carry with Keith Mercer's claim and while the horse does lack the experience of some of the rivals, his win at Southwell showed him to be unfazed by long distances and we will be hoping to make stealthy progress up the straight on the second circuit. Native Ivy was a progressive novice last term. He has had a couple of difficult assignments this term but with the Tinkler clan likely to be in full evidence at the West Yorkshire track, the recently-returned Colin Tinkler is sure to have him tuned up for the day. Noshinnakin is hardly well-treated by any stretch of the imagination but this hurdler-cum-chaser runs this track well and new connections have had plenty of fun for very little outlay at the sales. Monolith was well-held in a fair early-season contest at this track. The fact that he has had a couple of months off the track means that we will watch him unless there are any positive vibes for the betting ring. Il Cavaliere always threatens to win races but frequently disappoints. Moss Harvey is reverted back to hurdling after a modest time over bigger obstacles while Hugo De Perro returns to the track for new connections after refusing to start on his last two racecourse appearances. Off his light weight, One Five Eight just about swings the verdict and he can land another Wetherby success for Mick Easterby.
