Verdict
In an interesting handicap for mares, we opt for Kentford Grebe ahead of Petite Margot and Chamoss Royale. Chamoss Royale looks the stronger of the two Paul Nicholls runners, the other one being Blue Ride, and this four-year-old French import won her sole hurdling race last season, and looked impressive in the process. To be fair, it is hard to know if the handicapper has overreacted to that, and no positive clues were gained from the run of Rakassa at Fontwell on Friday, as Chamoss Royale had her behind when winning over course and distance. Kadara is pretty decent and she has won over hurdles, but was then beaten from her current mark and she drops back to hurdling now after falling on her chasing debut. Petite Margot hails from a stable in form and looks set to be prominent in this off her current mark, while Lalagune is 13 pounds better off for the ten-and-a-half lengths that she finished behind Chamoss Royale at Wincanton. Champagne Lil looks to be the Twiston-Davies second string, and Kentford Grebe is four pounds better off for the four lengths she finished behind Petite Margot in a Listed Hurdle at Cheltenham last season. That form rates as solid and, accordingly, we opt for Kentford Grebe in the hope that she can gain her revenge under these revised terms. With Kim Fontenail looking held by the selection on last season's Newbury form and Darjeeling maybe having to improve a few pounds, which is, of course, possible, once again, we give the vote to Kentford Grebe.
