        Verdict

        A decidedly modest opener in which stakes should probably be kept to a minimum. Hi Empress is penalised for her win at Brighton, where she just held on. Hardy Black would have claims on his staying-on third at Thirsk but appears to have the worst of the draw. TIDAL'S BABY has won over course and distance off a higher mark and can be forgiven his run on soft ground over a longer trip at Brighton, though he still finished ahead of Jay Bee Blue. He gets the nod as though Valmina is tumbling down the weights, he is probably better over 5f while Little Big Man prefers the all-weather.
