In depth

Verdict

A median auction maiden to get proceedings underway which reduces the potential quality on offer here. Green Art, representing the Peter Chapple-Hyam / Matthew Green combination gets the vote but given connections, the market will reflect what is expected first time out from this Captain Rio juvenile. An expensive yearling purchase, he is a half-brother to a smart juvenile in Green Pride. Everything certainly points to him being a smart juvenile. John Gosden's Green Beret, another expensive yearling purchase, is a half-brother to the smart sprinters Tax Free and Inexile - the last named a juvenile winner over five furlongs. The Gosden yard have hit a quite patch of late after a rattling start to the season. Richard Hannon's juveniles deserve utmost respect; he runs two here but it is safe to assume that Soul City is the first string. Dark Mischief is also an interesting newcomer but breeding suggests he will come into his own with age on his back. The majority of the remaining runners hail for so called smaller yards, not renowned for juvenile winners and the market should provide a good guide to any potential dark horses. Green Art gets the vote for a combination that excel with their charges.
