In depth

Verdict

Mullein is the selection to land this sprint for the Oaks winning team of Ralph Beckett and Seb Sanders. This filly drops down to the minimum trip for the first time after finishing fourth at Haydock last time, showing good speed throughout before weakening inside the final furlong. She was the very easy winner of a Kempton maiden over six furlongs on her second start and could well prove a class above her rivals here. Monsieur Reynard is beginning to emerge as a frustrating sort. He failed to reverse his form with Little Pete over this course last time. He held every chance but could not get by the ultra game winner. Another Socket finished in front of Monsieur Reynard at Newmarket last time, although Brian Meehan's did not get the clearest of runs on that occasion. Wise Melody possess plenty of early dash and is likely to be one of the pace setters but Mullein gets the vote.
