Verdict

Never Can Stop just about sets the standard but it's hardly an exacting one so we'll take CHORAL to make a winning debut. Richard Hannon has a 38% strike-rate with juvenile runners at Windsor this year which bodes well for our selection. This daughter of Oratorio is out of a dam who was nothing special, but she had plenty of speedy relatives so there's every hope Choral will prove up to this task. Never Can Stop ran well to snatch second last time but there are two major concerns; firstly she looked in need of a step up to six furlongs last time and secondly the filly disappointed on quick ground at Bath. Add that to the fact John Portman hasn't trained a juvenile winner this term and we're happy to take her on. Instructress ran a fair race on debut having got worked up in the stalls. She's a half-sister to useful sprinter Smooch and should show more here. Similarly Amber Mist caught the eye on her first visit to the racecourse, finishing three lengths behind Never Can Stop, who had the benefit of two previous runs. David Pinder's charge should improve and is bred to be at her best over five furlongs. Sirens split the pair that day but may find Amber Mist improving past her, Golden Tempest may need further but does need a look in the market, as does Regal Rocket in relation to our pick, her stablemate Choral. Regal Rocket looks the first-string on jockey bookings but has a pedigree that implies she'll do better over further and, whilst she should improve on her Salisbury debut, it wasn't a display that screamed future winner. In an open contest we'll take a chance on Choral.
