In depth

Verdict

Palacefield weakened very quickly late on when making his handicap debut at Thirsk when last seen in June and it may be too soon to write him off completely but Peter Chapple-Hyam's colt is hard to back following that effort and preference is for another three-year-old, LEARO DOCHAIS, who is preferred to Pegasus Again. The last mentioned deserves to get his head in front having been placed in each of his last four starts and the Terry Mills-trained gelding has every chance off the same mark as when a close third behind Trumpet Lily over course and distance when last seen in April. Marning Star is likely to find this tougher than the race that he won at Nottingham last time, especially on the faster ground, while Tony Carroll's Can Can Star looks plenty high enough in the weights at present. Amanda Perrett's Truism is less exposed than most of these after just three starts and the three-year-old makes more appeal than most of these back on fast ground but preference is for another three-year-old, Learo Dochais. The Michael Jarvis-trained gelding opened his account when taking a Lingfield maiden last month and ran well when a close third behind Secret Hero in a handicap at the same venue earlier this month on soft ground. The faster ground today should be of no concern to the son of Mutakddim and he looks the one to beat.
