Verdict

King Of The South hasn't been harshly dealt with by the handicapper for his latest success at Newcastle and has every chance of boosting an impressive 7-17 strike rate on artificial surfaces. He ties in closely with Pirate King though on their running at Gosforth Park, with the latter 2lb better off now for a threequarters-of-a-length defeat. There should be little between them on that evidence. Base Note is the only three-year-old in the line-up, but his relatively hit-and-miss record makes him hard to read. Furzig floundered on the heavy ground last time and is better assessed on two previous wins, but the choice falls upon OUTBOX. He has to give weight away all round but has not been disgraced in Group level races this year and may just have too much class for this field returned to handicaps.
