In depth
Verdict
Not a great maiden but Westcote has some fair form to his name and he should account for Freefall and Shergael. Second to a Loder hotpot last time out, Westcote looked as if a step up in trip should suit and Kevin Ryan looks to have found a modest enough opportunity on the surface. Shergael is understandably related to the family of Shergar so Walter Swinburn should have more than a clue or two about how this one's mind works. A draw of thirteen hardly inspires confidence. Freefall makes a British debut having previously been trained by David Wachman in Ireland. Opera Knight proved very expensive for both his buyers and backers a couple of years ago and is back after a long absence. Latif is a John Gosden cast-off while Pending had some form over seven furlongs for James Fanshawe. The market is possibly the best guide but Westcote appeals on first examination.
