Nonrunner

In depth

Verdict

A poor contest where Little Firecracker has every chance of defying a 4lb rise to follow up her recent c&d success, with John Potts and Transcendent looking solid in opposition. The selection came good for the first time since her Thirsk debut win when landing a handicap here last time. That 4lb rise will clearly not help matters, but in this company is does not look insurmountable. John Potts was runner up in a similar contest over c&d behind A Dream Come True and that was an improved effort from him. If he has finally found his feet then he won't be far away. Transcendent steps back up in trip after running okay over seven furlongs and pedigree suggests that he should stay, though he needs to prove that on the track. Star Grazer is 4lb worse off with John Potts for a half length defeat last time so is far from certain to reverse that form, though he is open to improvement. Mission Control won a seller last time and will need to improve, poor as this is, and preference is for Little Firecracker.
