In depth
Verdict
Another moderate affair here, with Shirazi taken to add to his Newton Abbot maiden hurdle success and score in novices' company, with Bearaway and Beausejour ones to consider, and Alva Glen one to fear if she gets it right. The selection was placed well by trainer David Gandolfo to win that maiden contest after just one outing over timber and a 13 length victory suggested that the gelding could win one or two more races this summer on decent ground. Disappointing last time out on the level, he reverts to hurdles here and with plenty of doubts about the others, is taken to come back to form. Bearaway win a poor bumper at Southwell last month, before staying on for second on his hurdles debut at Perth. He will need to do more here, but with little opposition about he should make the frame, as can course and distance winner Beausejour, who has gone up 16lb since landing a claimer here a month back. Alva Glen should really be able to leave these standing based on flat form, but has proved expensive to side with over hurdles so far, and we will pass her over now in favour of Shirazi.
