In depth

Verdict

Best to concentrate on the stables that do well in these bumpers and that brings into the equation Petite Margot, Ruby Dante, Midnight Spur and Dark Whisper, with preference going to the latter. Trainer Ian Williams does well in this sort of race and Dark Whisper has already got a couple of decent efforts under his belt, with a nice pipe opener being followed by a four-length third to La Luna at Market Rasen last time. That represents pretty good form for this contest and with more improvement expected he can score. Nigel Twiston-Davies sends out Petite Margot, who was with Denis Caro on her only run so far. This yard also does well, but it would be a bit of a shock if she improved so much for her debut and she may need more experience to win. Meanwhile Ruby Dante did his improving last time out and can come on again for his third at Newton Abbot. With Peter Bowen's runners going pretty well then he too can add to his prize money returns by getting in the frame again. Of the remainder, Midnight Spur comes from another bumper specialist in Brendan Powell and though we have no form to go on, he is likely to know the game well enough to be involved. The market should be watched for a clearer idea of his chances and unless there is a sustained gamble, then we are going to side with Dark Whisper.
