Verdict

The last four winners of this novice event have carried penalties so it may be worth sticking to the three at the head of the weights. GUSTAVE MAHLER had to be ridden out to get off the mark here last month but stretched his advantage over second Amirr to 17 lengths under 7lb extra at Southwell and looks progressive. Gannicus scrambled home in a maiden at Fakenham but the runner-up has let the form down since so Listen To The Man looks a bigger danger having defied a big weight in a handicap at Wincanton before failing to land the odds at Taunton when giving the winner 12lb.
