In depth

Verdict

The Strig has won over C&D and on soft ground and is back over his best trip after finishing last over 6f at Newmarket last month. Magical Speedfit won over track and trip in 2010 off a 2lb higher mark but seems to reserve his best for Brighton, while Ryan Style may still be a couple of pounds too high and has a poor strike rate nowadays. The three-year-old Signifer must have some sort of chance and Quaroma is lightly-raced this year but so is MOORHOUSE GIRL, who gets a tentative vote to build on two solid efforts at Redcar and Nottingham this summer and belatedly open her account.

Formwatch

Signifer (IRE) 33-1 (8-6) Mid-division, hung right and and headway over 1f out, soon chasing leaders, weakened final furlong, 9th of 15, 5l behind Jwala (9-2) at Goodwood 5f 3yo hcp 0-95 (3) gd.

Ryan Style (IRE) 4-1 (9-6) Tracked leader, ridden over 1f out, weakened inside final furlong, 4th of 11, 6l behind Dutch Heritage (9-1) at Ayr 6f hcp 0-75 (5) gd in Jul.

Moorhouse Girl 9-2 (9-4) Prominent, ridden and every chance over 1f out, not quicken near finish, 4th of 9, 2 1/4l behind Triple Dream (9-10) at Nottingham 5f hcp 0-75 (5) gd.

The Strig 25-1 (9-1) Slowly away, raced alone in centre, hung left over 1f out, never a factor, last of 11, 18l behind Trojan Rocket (9-11) at Newmarket 6f hcp 0-80 (4) sft in Jul.

Quaroma 7-2 (9-8) Chased leaders, effort and not much room over 1f out until one pace inside final furlong, 3rd of 6, 2 1/4l behind Crimson Knot (9-10) at Musselburgh 5f hcp 0-80 (4) sft in Jul.
