Verdict

Always Emirates caught the eye on his York debut and is fancied to see off the challenge of Best Alibi, Mulaqat and Black As Soot to name but three. Always Emirates lined up in what was a decent looking maiden at York just less than a month ago and was not disgraced at all in finishing fourth to Johannes, staying on stoutly once the penny had dropped. The son of Danzig will appreciate the extra furlong here and should make a bold bid, although his draw in stall one means that Kerrin McEvoy will have some work to do to get across to the stands side. Other than that he has leading claims. Sir Michael Stoute saddles both Best Way and Best Alibi, and it is the latter that will be expected to make more of a go of it than when a beaten favourite at Sandown as he floundered in the soft ground, beating only one home. The stable won this last year with Home affairs so will be keen to collect again. Mulaqat is already starting to look exposed, and there were no obvious excuses for his defeat at Lingfield. Maybe the drop back in trip today will help, but he is readily opposed. It is difficult to know what to make of Black As Soot's effort on rain-softened ground at Newmarket last time, but the fact that he was sent off as favourite suggests there is some ability there, but unless something comes out of the woodwork we like the look of Always Emirates.
