    Verdict

Lion Sands can get the better of Paceman, Swiss Act and Eco Centrism in the opener on day three at the seaside track. Lion Sands made a very pleasing debut at Newmarket three weeks ago, staying on well in the soft ground when the penny finally dropped to finish third behind Moudez. With normal improvement, Luca Cumani's colt should take the beating here before going on to better things, and it should be noted that he holds engagements in both the Racing Post Trophy and next year's Vodafone Derby. Paceman has the same entries and the Dewhurst as well so is obviously well regarded, but his two runs so far suggest that he will need a bit more time to come to hand. Swiss Act, a half-brother to Foxhaven, got bogged down in the heavy going on his Thirsk bow, and as he too is pencilled in for all the top races, has to be included in calculations, while Eco Centrism is a Derby entry but best watched on his debut. This is a decent contest to start the ball rolling, and one in which Lion Sands is taken to prevail on the strength of his promising introduction.
