Verdict

David Evans' yard is in fine form, and that success can continue here with MEMPHIS MAN, who we like in preference to Luminous Gold and Defector. Memphis Man has more than paid his way over the years, and this is definitely his trip, with the last seven of his nine career wins coming at this distance rather than the minimum trip. He doesn't have a great draw, but in a small field that shouldn't be a problem, and although he's not usually the quickest away he knows how to work his way to the front. He's versatile too, having won in different conditions, so he won't be troubled by however much rain has fallen. Chris Wall has a 19% strike rate here, and Luminous Gold has contributed to that with a course and distance win here on his penultimate run. Lightly raced this year, he's won off a slightly higher mark than he's currently on. Defector is nought from eight, but first time blinkers brought improvement at Southwell last time out; he handled that surface so should appreciate some cut in the ground, and the headgear stays on. However, we're supporting the old boy here, and that's Memphis Man.
