In depth

Verdict

A maximum field for this feature race on the Knavesmire can be led home by the lightly raced Fun to Ride, who edges the narrowest of votes over Tratonic, Mis Chicaf and High Voltage, who are all improving and capable of making their presence felt. The same has to be said of Glaramara, who drops to what may be his ideal trip on a course that has brought the best out of him in the past. The booking of Kieren Fallon will ensure that he has his share of supporters and a bold bid cannot be ruled out from him. Bonne De Fleur - winner of a Listed race at Ripon in April - is another that should not be underestimated as she already has some very useful form to her name and has fared quite well in landing a draw towards the centre of the track. However, Brian Smart's charge will struggle to confirm last season's form with the progressive Mis Chicaf on these terms and, as the handicapper has taken no chances with either of these horses, they look to hold place claims at best this afternoon. In contrast, Fun To Ride has dropped significant hints that there is much more to come from her and, considering that her trainer thinks this ground will see her in a better light, the daughter of Desert Prince could prove to be a class apart today. A word also has to be passed on about Alderney Race as he gets in here off a very nice weight despite winning his maiden by five lengths at Leicester in May. Nevertheless, he has to improve if he is going to get past the selection and, like many in the field, he may find Fun To Ride already has his measure.
