Verdict
A competitive handicap with last years winning stable represented by Surprise Encounter. The ground is the key to him and if it remains on the fast side, he looks sure to run well. The consistent Smirk, keeps running well without quite getting his head in front and it could be the same story here, while Summer View should finish closer to him here on these revised terms. Royal Millennium looks a shade to high in the handicap and former Lincoln winner Nimello, would need plenty of rain to have a chance. Calcutta, is not without a chance, if he can be dropped in from his outside draw. The ground cannot be fast enough for Hilltop Warning, and he looks sure to go well, but the one to beat is Sea Star. He had Hilltop Warning behind him at Newmarket, and should confirm that form on slightly worse terms and has since turned in a sound effort in the Victoria Cup, where he would have nearly won had he anything like a clear run.
