In depth

Verdict

Broken Applause, Gaitskell and Best Suited are the three to focus on in a competitive opener and the vote is given to the newcomer Broken Applause. The selection will not have to be anything special to make a winning racecourse debut here and he certainly makes plenty of appeal on breeding. The stable have got a decent strike-rate with their 2-year-olds and although he is not the biggest, he is entitled to go close. Best Suited is the other newcomer to appeal as she is a half-sister to the quite useful Scarlett Ribbon and she is certainly worth a look in the market. Gaitskell stands out as the best of those with racecourse experience as this colt stayed-on well on his debut to finish fourth behind Kersaint at Leicester. He is sure to benefit from the run and he should be good enough to lead them home if the newcomers fail to sparkle. Discanti has been a bit disappointing on his two runs to date and will have to improve to get competitive, and we are happy to side with Broken Applause who can make a winning racecourse debut.
