In depth

Verdict

Following a highly impressive display at Chester last week Dabbers Ridge stands out head and shoulders above his rivals here and is taken to defy a 3lb penalty at the main expense of Stronghold and Babodana. The last mentioned has ground conditions to suit and lost no caste in defeat behind Rob Roy in Group 2 company last time so has to be respected back in this grade today. Chrysander looks to be going the right way now judged by his latest start at Ripon and could be of interest along with Tucker, who like most of David Elsworth's runners can be expected to improve for his reappearance run. Zero Tolerance has been a good servant to connections and is another worthy of a mention although a bigger threat is likely to come from John Gosden's relatively lightly raced Stronghold, who returns to turf having won a Listed race at Lingfield earlier this month. The selection though has to be Dabbers Ridge, who looked badly drawn at Chester and raced wide throughout but still won with any amount in hand at the line under conditions that were ideal. The Barry Hills-trained colt has similar ground today and it will be a surprise if he cannot follow up under just a 3lb penalty.
