Verdict
A typical big-field York handicap to finish the day here, where heavy financial involvement is not recommended, but we will side with Undeterred to take advantage of a good draw against an exposed field, with Salviati and Smart Predator perhaps the ones to ones to trouble him most. The selection has been thoroughly consistent this season, beating Zuhair in the Stewards' Sprint at Goodwood on his penultimate start, whilst going close on three other occasions, including when second to Sir Don over course and distance a month ago. The David Barron-trained gelding was just touched off in the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon on Saturday and off the same mark here he can go in here. Milton Bradley has enjoyed a good season with his sprinters and Salviati has been among those to have had his nose in front on more than one occasion. He never really got chance to defy a 6lb rise last time out and has been upped from the minimum trip here, so can go well if he gets home, and might not be as fully exposed as first seems the case. Smart Predator is another well drawn here and Keith Dalgleish's mount steps back into this company after landing a Class D 'grey horse' handicap at Newmarket on Saturday. Clearly bang in form, he took that race comfortably and this is not beyond him by any means, but he will need to improve to win, though his prominent tactics will be a help in this large field. Even so, we are perfectly happy to side with the tough and consistent Undeterred.
