Verdict
This is as open an Ebor as we have had for years and, with no stand out contender in the field; we'll take a chance on the Irish raider, Sadlers Wings ahead of his stable companion Holy Orders along with the well fancied Salsalino and Sir Michael Stoute's pair of Researched and Distinction. Willie Mullins saddled Holy Orders, also a useful hurdler, to win on the flat over this trip at the Galway Festival, with stable companion Sadlers Wings two and a half lengths away in third place. It could be significant that both make the journey over, and on seven pounds better terms we think that Sadlers Wings, with a reasonable draw in stall 11, represents decent each way value in a very competitive handicap. Sir Michael Stoute's Researched is a progressive type and has Kieren Fallon in the plate, but a combination of top weight and a high draw give him a stiff task, so slight preference would go to his stablemate Distinction, a lightly-raced sort who still has scope and could go well for Mick Kinane. The three-year-old Salsalino has survived an anxious wait for connections to see if he would make the cut, but Alan King's colt appears to have been crying out for this trip and should be thereabouts. Last year's winner, Hugs Dancer, comes here in good form again and it would be no surprise to see him go well despite yet another rise in the weights, but Sadlers Wings looks to be on a fair mark and represents decent each way value for the Irish.
