    In depth

WISSAHICKON has been rested after his exploits on the all-weather earlier in the year. The Winter Derby winner failed to run his race at the All-Weather Championships back in April but he goes well fresh and there should be even more to come from John Gosden’s colt this season. Jersey Stakes winner Space Traveller finished in front of Zaaki in the Lennox Stakes over 7f at Goodwood last time but both have something to prove over this longer trip with the latter well beaten in last year’s renewal. Bangkok and Forest Ranger failed to figure in the Sky Bet York Stakes here last month, though it was soft ground on that occasion and the former could bounce back today, while Escobar is another stepping up in distance having come up short in Pattern races in the past.

Forest Ranger (IRE) 16-1 (9-9) Tracked leader until over 4f out, weakend over 1f out, last of 6, 11 3/4l behind Elarqam (9-6) at York 1m 2f Grp 2 stks (1) sft in Jul.

Wissahickon (USA) 1-3fav (9-5) Held up towards rear on outside, headway over 3f out, ridden over 2f out, chased winner from last bend but soon well held, 2nd of 8, 7l behind Matterhorn (9-5) at Lingfield 1m 2f (2) pol in Apr.

Zaaki 10-3 (9-3) Held up towards rear, never on terms, 7th of 9, 4 1/4l behind Sir Dancealot (9-3) at Goodwood 7f Grp 2 stks (1) gd in Jul.

Escobar (IRE) 10-1 (9-5) Steadied start, held up towards rear, headway chasing leaders 2f out, ridden and went 3rd inside final furlong, not quite pace to challenge, 3rd of 20, 2l behind Beat Le Bon (9-2) at Goodwood 1m hcp (2) gf in Aug.

Bangkok (IRE) 9-2 (8-11) In rear, effort over 3f out, never dangerous, 5th of 6, 9l behind Elarqam (9-6) at York 1m 2f Grp 2 stks (1) sft in Jul.

Space Traveller 7-1 (8-10) In touch, lost place over 2f out, 6th of 9, 3 3/4l behind Sir Dancealot (9-3) at Goodwood 7f Grp 2 stks (1) gd in Jul.
