Man Utd transfers

Wrapping up the Man Utd transfer news, rumours and gossip in the 2022 summer window.

Laporta: De Jong not for sale

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has insisted the club do not want to sell Frenkie de Jong this summer.

Manchester United are in talks over a move for De Jong and Barcelona need to sell players this summer due to their financial situation.

However, Laporta has suggested publicly he wants to keep De Jong at the Camp Nou, saying: "There are clubs that want him, not just United. We have no intention of selling him, he wants to stay.

"Frenkie is considered as one of the best midfielders in the world by all the experts. We are happy to have him."

Ronaldo asks to leave Man Utd

Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United this summer amid concerns he will be unable to compete for the biggest trophies at the club.

The 37-year-old feels the urge to win even more in the twilight of his career, but is understood to feel that may not be possible at Old Trafford next season.

Ronaldo is also understood to be concerned that United are yet to make any improvements to the squad in the current transfer window.

However, United's stance is that Ronaldo is not for sale and remains under contract with the club for another year.

Martinez tells Ajax: I want PL move | Undecided between Man Utd & Arsenal

Lisandro Martinez has told Ajax he wants to move to the Premier League - but has not yet decided between Manchester United and Arsenal.

The centre-back took time out from his holiday last Tuesday to have a meeting with Ajax in Amsterdam to make it clear that a move to the Premier League is the only outcome on his mind this summer.

Martinez was supposed to fly to Ibiza from Argentina for the second part of his holiday before pre-season, but detoured to the Dutch capital for talks instead.

The 24-year-old has now resumed his holiday and is waiting for agreements to be in place between the clubs before making a decision on his next destination.

Although the pull of working again with Erik ten Hag at United is strong, Martinez sees both the United and Arsenal projects as suiting his playing style and is also intrigued by working with Mikel Arteta.

Henderson joins Forest on a season-long loan

Nottingham Forest have signed Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old has joined the newly-promoted side in search of regular first-team football, having flourished during previous loan spells at Sheffield United between 2018 and 2020.

The deal reportedly does not include an option to buy, with Steve Cooper's side covering his wages for the duration of the loan.

Spanish football expert Alvaro Montero has the latest news on the potential transfer of Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United from Barcelona.

Spanish football expert Alvaro Montero speaking on Sky Sports News:

"The player [Frenkie de Jong] knows the situation of the club. Barcelona have informed De Jong in the last few weeks that we need the money and he's a good option [to get those funds].

"Barcelona and Xavi know that De Jong wants to stay, it's his dream to play for Barcelona but Manchester United is calling you and Erik Ten Hag knows him well. Not only an option, but it's more than probable that De Jong ends up in Manchester United.

"It depends on him because if he wants to stay and Barcelona and Xavi believe there is no other option, he will do it. If he opens the door to leave, Manchester United will be his destination."

Update on De Jong, Malacia, Martinez & Eriksen

Erik ten Hag ideally wants the bulk of Manchester United's transfer business completed before the squad flies out for their pre-season tour on July 8, with a basic agreement in place for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong while a deal for Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia is expected to be completed soon.

The club are strongly interested in Arsenal target Lisandro Martinez and have been doing due diligence on the situation.

Christian Eriksen is deciding whether to accept an offer from United or remain at Brentford - although there are other proposals on the table that he "remains open to."

The club are in talks over Ajax forward Antony, while the Dutch side have indicated they expect Jurrien Timber to stay in Amsterdam.

United have had the centre-half, who can also operate at right-back, on a shortlist of defensive targets.

Football director John Murtough is overseeing transfer business aided by head of recruitment operations Steve Brown.

Solicitor Tom Keane has been roped in on a consultancy basis to draft deals.

Man Utd agree £13m deal for Malacia

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Feyenoord for Tyrell Malacia and are optimistic of wrapping up a deal for the left-back.

The package is around an initial £13m with a further £1.7m in add-ons and is expected to include a sell-on clause. Agreeing personal terms with the 22-year-old should not be a problem.

United accelerated their interest in Malacia in an attempt to beat Lyon to a deal and the Dutch club recently confirmed a fee had been agreed.

Basic agreement for De Jong

Frenkie de Jong

Progress continues to be made on Frenkie de Jong and the basis of an agreement is there, but there are still significant complexities to work through.

Talks are progressing well over an initial £56m deal for the Barcelona midfielder, which has allowed United to pivot to other players on a shortlist for their rebuild.

Personal terms are not expected to be a problem for the midfielder, who made 46 appearances for Barcelona last term and has four years remaining on his current contract at the Nou Camp.

Man Utd hopeful over Eriksen

Manchester United United also remain hopeful of signing Denmark international Christian Eriksen.

A deal is on the table with Eriksen's representatives - the final decision rests with the player himself.

Sky Sports News has reported Eriksen will choose between United and Brentford.

Meanwhile, United remain interested in Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez and Ajax winger Antony.

Both were regulars under Ten Hag at Ajax.

While central defence is not currently a priority position, United are looking at ways to improve in every area of the pitch.

Fulham target Pereira deal

Fulham have made an offer for Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira.

Sky Sports News have been told the bid is around an initial £8 million with add-ons.

Pereira spent last season on loan at Flamengo and is not part of Erik ten Hag's plans ahead of the new season.

Ronaldo not for sale despite Chelsea reports

Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale and Manchester United expect him to remain at Old Trafford, despite reports linking the Portugal star with a sensational move to Chelsea.

United's failure to qualify for the Champions League and lack of signings so far this summer has led to reports that Ronaldo may want to leave.

His agent Jorge Mendes met Chelsea's new co-owner Todd Boehly last week and Ronaldo was mentioned during the meeting, but new United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Ronaldo is part of his future plans.

Ronaldo returned to United last summer, 12 years after originally leaving the club for Real Madrid, and netted 24 goals in 38 games to finish as the club's top scorer in all competitions.

Manchester United expect Cristiano Ronaldo to play for them next season after reports he would be leaving the club

'Obsessive Ronaldo wants CL football'

Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepulveda to Sky Sports:

"When the transfer window is open, it's normal that we talk about Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United are not in the Champions League next season and Ronaldo is unhappy about this.

"He is completely obsessed with playing in the competition so he's not living well with the reality that he's not going to be playing in it in the immediate future.

"He's spoken to his agent Jorge Mendes, who is seeing if there are any other options. He said he would speak to the clubs who are targeting winning the Champions League to see what could be done in terms of a change in this summer transfer window.

"You can forget the English clubs - Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham - as I'm 100 per cent sure Ronaldo will not play for another club in England, while Ronaldo doesn't fit into the new project at PSG."
