Verdict
Derby hope Masked Marvel impressed in winning his maiden at Sandown despite looking in need of both the run and the experience. He can be expected to come on for that outing, should have no problem with the softer surface and can take the step up in class in his stride. Andrew Balding has a decent line on the form as he saddled the third home at Sandown so it'll be interesting to see if there's any support for Baptist who won a traditionally strong maiden at Newbury from a subsequent winner. TOOLAIN has been absent since beating Galtymore Lad over 7 furlongs here in July; that form is rock solid as Wootton Bassett is the only horse to have beaten Mick Channon's runner since and makes the Racing Post Trophy entry the horse to beat and he can provide Michael Jarvis with his second win in this race in three years.
