Verdict
With some familiar names arriving here in good form, this could well turn out to be the race of the week, but Mr Dinos is confidently fancied to beat them all. Paul Cole's four-year-old was a very progressive stayer last year, who finished the campaign with a Group 1 victory over two miles at Longchamp. That was on heavy ground, but he is just as effective on a fast surface, as he showed when landing a Group 2 race at Sandown on his reappearance. Mamool is an obvious danger for Godolphin. The In The Wings colt came from a long way back to land the Yorkshire Cup last time, and that form looks very solid. However, although he shapes like a thorough stayer, Mamool is unproven over this extreme trip and that would be a slight doubt. He did beat Mr Dinos by half a length in the Queen's Vase here last year, when Black Sam Bellamy was fifth and Savannah Bay sixth. Black Sam Bellamy seems a very doubtful stayer here, so despite a good showing in the Coronation Cup last time he is readily overlooked, especially as he seems best on a soft surface. Old Persian Punch contests this race for an amazing seventh time, and while a win for him would almost bring the roof off, the ten-year-old was well behind Mr Dinos at Sandown and it is hard to see him reversing the form. Mr Dinos looks like he will really come into his own in all the Cup races this year, and with Kieren Fallon's booking an added bonus, he gets the nap selection here.
