Verdict

Earlier races this week on the straight course suggest that a low draw is marginally preferable to a high one so it may pay to concentrate on those drawn on the stands' side with the vote just going to Simianna, who gets the nod over Halmahera and Coconut Penang. The last mentioned has joined Peter Chapple-Hyam since his last run and it would come as no surprise to see the well-backed four-year-old take a hand from stall seven. Kevin Ryan's Cardinal Venture has to shoulder a penalty for his recent Haydock success but still looks to be ahead of the handicapper but would want more rain and a bigger threat is likely to come from stablemate Halmahera. The nine-year-old may be more exposed than some of his rivals but could hardly be better berthed and has a good record here. Milton Bradley's Corridor Creeper is another from a low draw that has to be considered but preference is for Simianna. Alan Berry's mare comes into this having shown her best form for some time when second to Golden Nun in a Group 3 at Cork last week. Set to go up 6lbs in future handicaps, the mare is undoubtedly well treated and, with the yard back among the winners this week, there is every reason to suggest that there may be more to come from the daughter of Bluegrass Prince. Among those drawn towards the far side, the David Nicholls-trained pair of Lafi and Fire Up The Band have to be respected, although the latter would probably want a softer surface. Tim Easterby's Dazzling Bay and the Stuart Williams-trained Tychy, the mount of Jamie Spencer, are both worthy of a mention, as is Kieren Fallon's mount High Reach but for the vote we side with Alan Berry's Simianna.
