Verdict

Never Surrender beat a subsequent winner in a Chester maiden last month and could be an interesting outsider with Paul Hanagan doing the steering. Atty Persse could have the form of his Sandown win boosted in the previous race but never looked like winning over 1m2f at Haydock next time. Homesman beat Twin Star and stablemate Utah in a Group 3 at the Curragh last month and is respected, despite top weight, while Good Omen won easily at Doncaster at the start of the month. First Nation can reverse Doncaster running with another Godolphin runner, Bin Battuta, and seems sure to appreciate the step up to 1m4f but Tartini may struggle to turn around Epsom running with Drochaid, despite being 5lb better off. The handicapper has taken no chances with Master Singer but he could be anything after winning a Newcastle maiden by the best part of half-a-furlong. Mark Johnston’s three-year-olds are always worth a second look at this meeting and MISTER MANDURO is no exception. A poor run at Newmarket was quickly forgotten as he was back on-song when a close fourth behind stablemate Time To Study at Musselburgh where he possibly just failed to see out the 1m6f trip. Ahead of subsequent Dante winner Permian and stable companion Sofia's Rock, a winner twice since, at Bath on fast ground over 1m4f earlier, this looks his chance to shine.
