KHOTAN is bred for middle-distances and did well enough as a juvenile. He reappeared in an amateurs' event at Doncaster where he gave his rider all sorts of problems through inexperience and with regular partner Luke Morris back on board he can make amends. Caledonia, a winning bumper and an excellent third in the Aintree bumper, was a bit disappointing on his debut under Flat rules at Thirsk but today's longer trip is in his favour and he looks best of Jim Goldie's trio as Mister Pagan was behind him at Aintree. Argaki had looked progressive when a close third at Redcar but didn't show much in a handicap at Beverley last time.
