        Verdict

        This is a tricky race to get the card underway and Clog Dance and Appetina are sure to have their supporters, but we will take a chance on the Mark Johnston trained filly Mekuria. The selection is well bred and has shown ability on both her starts to date. Although we may not see the best of her until next year, she looks to be going the right way and with natural progression could be good enough to take this contest. Clog Dance could be interesting even though she has been a bit disappointing so far. She was well beaten on her debut at Salisbury behind Silk Fan and ran well enough last time at Newbury. This looks easier than both those two races so she has to be worthy of respect. Appetina is the other for the shortlist, and although she was a bit disappointing at Ascot last time, she would have strong claims based on her third behind Cart Sauvage previously. She finished in front of Danzig River on that day who has since won in decent style at Newmarket. Appetina will appreciate the step up in trip so looks the main danger to our selection. Any market support for the newcomers Powernap and New Morning should be noted, but in a tricky race, Mekuria narrowly gets the vote.
