Red Damson, Rutters Rebel and Kentmere should all be on the shortlist here, but the vote goes to Hathlen from the in-form Mick Channon yard. Hathlen caught the eye at Pontefract last time when staying on strongly inside the final furlong after being squeezed out when going for a gap. The selection looked like a horse to follow that day, and with his yard in such good form, he is difficult to oppose here. Red Damson has got obvious claims and looks to be the one to give our selection the most to do. He is game and consistent but has found one too good in each of his last two races. He was second behind Breathing Sun at Ripon last time, and that form has since been franked by the winner. Kentmere was a disappointing favourite last time but has got plenty of ability so has to be respected, while Rutters Rebel is in great heart at present and would have won last time had he not hung so badly inside the final furlong. However, he is steadily rising in the weights and may find a couple too good here. Of the rest, Kings Rock is a bit one-paced and Soap Watcher looks outclassed, so Hathlen is the choice to make amends for an unlucky defeat at Pontefract last time out behind Dumfries.
