In depth
Verdict
Not too many of these have shown form on a soft surface so a tentative TEAMtalk selection goes to Border Tale who put up his best two performances of the season on rain softened ground at Hamilton and Newmarket earlier in the season. He subsequently ran below this level of form at Sandown and Wolverhampton on unsuitable ground but should play a leading role here from a decent draw. Earlston is a course and distance winner and is highly regarded by connections. That win came on a soft surface but the form has been let down since and the time of that race was slow. Carenage has been brought along steadily and looks to be on a handy mark. If he takes to the rain-softened ground he should have a big chance. Topweight Menuhin has shown a consistent level of form all season and although will need to improve to land this was given a confidence booster at Wolverhampton recently where he won well over an extended mile.
