A fiercely competitive renewal of this valuable compensation race for those ballotted out of the main event tomorrow and one in which the vagaries of the draw complicate matters further still. However, following a certain D Nicholls has proved a rewarding system for punters in this type of contest and the Sessay handler has no less than six representatives in a bid to repeat the success of Tayif who landed this twelve months ago. The six-year-old is once again in the line up and is able to race off a mark 2lb lower than last year so, having run creditably in defeat in a string of top sprints including a fine dead-heating fifth in the Stewards Cup, he should go well once again. Stablemate Undeterred finished an honourable third in the Goodwood feature despite meeting trouble in running when Peruvian Chief (fifth), Awake (eighth), Doctor Spin (eleventh) and Boanerges (twentieth) all finished behind. The son of Zafonic confirmed the form when a staying-on fifth over the same C&D the following month but then blooted his copybook with a moody display at Redcar last time and now has something to prove. Peruvian Chief has put up a number of consistent efforts of late but has yet to win on turf while Nothing Daunted is an infrequent winner for one of his ability but showed definite signs of a return to form last time and should not be dismissed. Adweb, Brave Burt and Esatto have all been in excellent heart of late but may now be a shade high in the weights so a tentative TEAMtalk vote goes to Night Runner. Tim Easterby's yard has hit a rich vein of form of late and this son of Polar Falcon has added to the tally with recent wins at Beverley and Newcastle and has performed admirably with two placed efforts in competitive company since. Still relatively lightly raced yet proven in the conditions, Night Runner is the choice to plunder another top proze for the Malton handler.
