    In depth

DESERT LION should get off the mark here though he was undoubtedly disappointing when last seen at Thirsk in April having made a very promising debut at Kempton the previous month. Colonel Slade has been well beaten in two starts this season after a fair debut at Newmarket in August while Honey Bear has shown little in two starts on Tapeta though wouldn't need to improve much to take a hand. The two newcomers, Just Champion and Lady Of Mercia, both look as though they will need further.

Colonel Slade (IRE) 33-1 (9-5) Chased leaders in 5th on inside, one pace and no impression final 2f, 5th of 14, 12 3/4l behind Rum Baba (9-5) at Windsor 1m mdn stks (5) gf in Jul.

Desert Lion 10-11fav (9-0) Slowly into stride, tracked leaders, effort over 2f out, faded final furlong, 4th of 6, 4 1/4l behind Munhamek (9-5) at Thirsk 1m stks (5) gd in Apr.
