A big field although we can't see too many getting into this but one who should is Apache Point, who can take it from Top Dirham, Beamsley Beacon and Gallows Hill. The selection is in good heart, having finished runner up over 10f at Newcastle last time. This trip suits him equally well, however, and he acts on any ground, so with course form and a handy mark to boot, he is given the vote. Top Dirham is a light of former days, but is still capable at this level, and beat the selection a head at Thirsk in July. He is 2lb worse off here and that may just find him out. Beamsley Beacon always seems to run his race but is still 4lb above his last winning mark, despite a losing run of 25 starts now, and virtually always finds a couple too good, so he is easy enough to oppose. Gallows Hill improved for the application of a visor last time, and now first-time blinkers are applied, so he is not out of this if they have a similar effect, while Myfrenchconnection won a claimer at the track last time, but may be competitive here from a mark of 54. Even so, Apache Point is our in this moderate handicap.
