In depth

Verdict

A chance is taken with Society Music, whose yard are in blistering form at present. She will not have to find much to withstand the challenges of Wansdyke Lass and Kelly Nicole if her latest start is anything to go by. Another worth mentioning is Tharua, who is unexposed on turf and looks sure to pick up a race somewhere along the line. It will not escape the attention of many that she finished third behind the highly regarded Rob Roy on her debut and was, herself, well thought of as a two-year-old. Things did not go her way as events unfolded last year and her supporters ended up licking their wounds. Tharua is obviously no world beater, but she does start the campaign on a very fair mark and it will be no surprise to see her land a small prize at some point. Wansdyke Lass is a prime candidate to set a strong pace and will no doubt make a bold bid to follow up her selling grade success from a fortnight ago. Mick Channon's charge is improving but she needs to confirm that her Yarmouth effort was not just a one-off performance. Kelly Nicole responded well to the blinkers last time and landed a poor maiden in the process. She has a bit more to find but cannot confidently be ruled out. However, preference goes to Society Music, who will appreciate this slightly longer trip and, with the ground very much in her favour, she is expected to take plenty of stopping today.
