Verdict
Local Poet can end a bout of seconditis by beating the likes of Baylaw Star, Lago d'Orta and Copper King. Ian Semple has not lost faith in Local Poet despite the fact that the six-year-old has found one too good on each of his last three outings, and it is hoped that the drop to claiming class will prove the answer. He succumbed to the late thrust of Ignition at Hamilton ten-days ago, but has a furlong less to travel here, and looks very much the one to beat. Baylaw Star has gone off the boil of late after hitting form earlier in the season and has to carry most weight, while Lago d'Orta hails from an in-form yard but needs to show a lot more than he did on his last visit here. Copper King stayed on well up the Sandown hill in similar company recently and is not out of it, but it will be disappointing if Local Poet, with conditions in his favour, does not come out on top.
