Observatory Star gets a narrow vote over Cross Of Lorraine and old Whitbarrow, with Bahamian Duke also to be considered. This looks pretty wide-open, but Observatory Star has run well both times this season, and Tim Easterby's charge should go close again this afternoon. The four-year-old was not beaten too far by Stamford Bridge at Warwick last time, and should now be spot on. Cross Of Lorraine's trainer is better known for his jumpers, but this individual has been quite consistent on the level, and it has to be said, he did not get the best of luck-in-running when second to River Thames at Ayr last time. He has to be on the short-list. Old Whitbarrow saw his purple patch come to an end at Kempton, but there still may be more life in the old dog, and he cannot be discounted despite topweight, while Bahamian Duke will benefit from the outing, having been off since April, but has a bit more scope than some other more exposed animals. An open affair can go the way of Observatory Star.
