Verdict
First Byte can win a weak opening event at the expense of Mint, with Fitasabuckstoat and Grenane worth a mention. First Byte has had three runs already and although nothing special based on those efforts, she should be more than capable of landing this. Paul D'Arcy's filly dwelt at the start when third on her Yarmouth debut, and did not perform too badly on faster ground at Ripon last time. Drawn in stall three, she should be the one to beat. On aline through One Trick Pony, Mint looks held, but to be fair she did miss the break on her Thirsk debut and can only improve for the run and drop in grade. The One Trick Pony form-line can also be used to eliminate Fitasabuckstoat from our enquiries, as he too was well behind that animal on another occasion at Thirsk, but with four runs under his belt, he will know more than most. Grenane is hard to fancy on his two runs to date, and all roads point to First Byte in a race that will take little winning.
