In depth

Verdict

A weak race, despite the big field, and My Sharp Grey looks the one they all have to beat; Berkeley Hall, El Pedro and Peter the Great have place claims. My Sharp Grey is still a maiden after 20 tries, but there are a lot of those in this race, and she ran well enough when chasing home Loner in a similar event at Warwick last time, with Harmony Hall fourth and Berkeley Hall back in sixth place, and a reproduction of that effort should just about be good enough here. Berkeley Hall had shown better form earlier when placed at Nottingham, and it would not be the biggest surprise in the world if she reversed the form. El Pedro, although beaten a long way, was third in a better race at Lingfield last time and is another with claims, while Peter the Great showed better form in cheekpieces last time, has been dropped eight pounds since then and the booking of Seb Sanders catches the eye. It would be no surprise to see him go close in a race like this, but My Sharp Grey is just preferred.
