Verdict
Unless Martin Pipe's The Three Bandits proves to be out of the ordinary, this is expected to go to Meggie's Lad, who is taken to get the better of Lord Earth. The last mentioned has failed to impress in two starts over hurdles since making a winning debut in a Worcester bumper in May but, with the stable of Paul Nicholls continuing in such good form, he cannot be dismissed lightly. Very few yards are in better form than that of Venetia Williams at present though and she is taken to get another winner with Meggie's Lad. The son of Beau Sher also made a successful start to his career in bumper-company but has shown decent form over hurdles as well, latterly when a close third behind Toon Trooper at Warwick last month. A reproduction of that effort may suffice. The Three Bandits, a four-year-old son of Accordian, obviously warrants respect and the market may provide some clues as to his chances, as they may for another hurdling debutante Allez Mousson, a winning staying handicapper on the flat. The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Tiger Tips Lad appeals most of the remaining runners, who look a moderate bunch but the vote goes to Meggie's Lad.
