Verdict
Ian Semple's in-form Maktavish and Alan Berry's Simianna have the best of the draw in stalls one and two respectively but preference is for Cape Royal, who is taken to follow up his recent Epsom success. Lynda Ramsden's colt handled the soft ground well that day and despite the rise in the weights still looks to be step ahead of the handicapper. He is taken to win from stall six. An inside draw is a huge advantage around the Roodee so the likes of top weight Pomfret Lad, course winner Vita Spericolata and Milton Bradley's Whitbarrow may all struggle from high draws. Of more interest may be Eric Alston's Johnston's Diamond, for who Kieren Fallon has been booked, while Maktavish, who has won three from four this term, has an obvious chance. However, Cape Royal holds solid claims and gets the vote to follow up his Epsom success.
