An open way to start the card and Astrac is only a tentative choice to get the better of Game Flora, Halcyon Magic and Bali Star, who are expected to put up the most resistance out of the remainder, although Redoubtable still retains his enthusiasm for the game and is also worth considering. However, Astrac is a grand old stager who knows the ropes as well as any in the field and has dropped to a handy mark after finding himself in the grip of the handicapper over the last year. The Annabel King-trained gelding is the perfect ride for a young rider getting to know the ropes and, as Derek Nolan takes a handy 5lb off his back, he has a solid chance at the weights today. Halcyon Magic should have benefited from his reappearance blow-out at Folkestone and is the best alternative if the ground is deemed to be too testing for Astrac.
