Verdict

A competitive heat in which the trio to concentrate on may be MUSTAKMIL, Wilbury Star and Veroon and the vote is given to the first mentioned. Ed Dunlop's colt is stepped back up in trip following two unsuccessful runs in maiden company at Nottingham and Ripon. He doesn't look one to trust implicitly however this opening mark of 74 for handicaps doesn't look too harsh and he is bred to improve with time and racing. Wilbury Star went close on quick ground at Lingfield last time out having previously won at Salisbury; he goes with the blinkers again and should run his race. Veroon is another consistent runner who comes here on the back of some good efforts. One worry with him is that he looked to struggle with the bends at Wolverhampton last time so this track may not be ideal despite running well here in the past. Dr Jameson steps up in trip, Punch Drunk drops in distance but looks one-paced, whilst Oriental Cavalier was well-fancied here last time but was fairly well-held; he will need to improve back from a break. Bottom-weight Vita Mia is a course and distance winner and she holds Veroon on their run here in August. She must be taken seriously off this mark of 65, however in what looks an open race it is Mustakmil who is narrowly preferred.
