Verdict
Balmont showed a lot of promise behind the useful Byron when second on his debut and normal improvement gives him a very good chance here. A son of Stravinsky and related to a Kentucky Derby winner on his dam's side, Jeremy Noseda's colt will probably be sent off at a short price. Next best might be Juniper Banks, who cost 39,000 guineas and is a Night Shift half-brother to Bahamian Pirate. As such, it would be no surprise to see this six-furlong trip suit. Mark Johnston runs Pearl Pride, a sister to the Gerard Butler-trained, one-time Derby hope Playapart. For his part, Butler runs Motivus, who has an American pedigree but could go well on his debut but Balmont gets a fairly confident vote.
