Verdict

A very good stayers' handicap where MAXIM GORKY is the suggestion. Sir Michael Stoute's colt enjoyed getting his toe in when beating market leader Plymouth Rock over 1m 7f at Newmarket last time and he has been raised 8lbs for that. Unexposed after just four runs, he showed a good attitude to hold all comers that day, and with the front three clear the form looks rock solid. Stablemate Jedi is preferred by Ryan Moore and is also short-listed on ground that suits, though he still has to prove he gets this far. Fortuni is very interesting and ran better than the bare form suggested in the Ebor. He should go on the slower ground and the yard is red hot. Lady Eclair handles conditions but was a shade disappointing last time and may have too much weight now, while if The Betchworth Kid could reproduce his best then he would look well-in despite topweight and soft ground also suits. Mount Athos is respected but has it to prove on the ground and with an 11lb rise to contend with, so preference is for Maxim Gorky.
