Verdict

Roman Mistress is steadily returning to form and looks set to land this handicap, with Lady Protector and Dani Ridge put forward as viable dangers. The key to this event could be a recent handicap at Newcastle won by Lady Protector. Roman Mistress was two lengths away in fourth and Lady Pekan was just ahead in third. The selection is much better off at the weights with the winner and also may have improved since that effort. Lady Protector is a game sort and will not go down without a fight but Roman Mistress may just have the edge today. Dani Ridge made her seasonal debut in a listed event at Haydock and belied odds of 80 to one to finish fifth behind Tante Rose, she does have to shoulder top-weight, but has the class to go close. At her best College Queen would also have a chance here, but Roman Mistress is the pick of the weights and gets our vote.
