Verdict
A low draw has been a distinct advantage in recent years for the first leg of the Spring Double, with the last five winners all having had a single figure draw, so it may pay to concentrate on those on the far side with Desert Opal preferred to Alkaadhem and Chivalry. The last mentioned landed the Cambridgeshire for Sir Mark Prescott last season and comes here fit form a successful campaign over hurdles during the winter. Well drawn in stall one, he has to be respected. Alkaadhem is less exposed than most but this is a hard race for one so inexperienced. Karl Burke's Blue Sky Thinking has been running well on the all-weather of late and has to be respected along with Tim Easterby's Flighty Fellow and Amanda Perrett's Serieux, for who the booking of Johnny Murtagh takes the eye. However, the vote has to go to Desert Opal. John Gosden has a good record at Town Moor and is sure to have the son of Cadeaux Genereux fully wound up for his seasonal reappearance. Progressive as a three-year old last season, there may be even more to come this term and he looks the percentage call. A draw in stall 10 is not ideal for Sir Michael Stoute's Fremen and the fact that no horse has won the Lincoln from a double figure draw for five years is enough to put us of Darryll Holland's mount. The Barry Hills-trained Pablo is well enough treated and will not be inconvenienced by the ground but, along with the likes of El Coto, Our Teddy, Norton and stablemate Craiova, he has been done few favours by the draw and we are prepared to stick with those drawn low and in particular Desert Opal.
