Verdict

Amazingly, Ballydoyle and Godolphin field a combined total of six of the ten that go to post. Ryan Moore takes the ride on the globetrotting Highland Reel whose roll of honour last term included the Breeders' Cup Turf, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and runner-up performances in the Arc de Triomphe and Juddmonte International. His record speaks for itself and he seems sure to be involved at the business end. However, his stable companion IDAHO also makes real appeal and hopefully will be fully tuned for this seasonal reappearance. He was placed in both The Derby and Irish Derby when continuing to suggest that he would make an even better 4-y-o. Hopefully, he can give credence to that viewpoint here. Last year's Eclipse winner, Hawkbill, also a scorer last time at Newbury, looks best of the Godolphin contingent but has shown his best on soft ground. If there is to be a gatecrasher against the two powerhouses, then John Gosden's Journey could be the one. Trip and ground will suit the winner of the Group 1 Fillies and Mares on Champions Day last season and she's a major threat, although there's the possibility she's at her very best come the autumn.
